So Abram rose, and clave the wood, and went,
And took the fire with him, and a knife.
And as they sojourned both of them together,
Isaac the first-born spake and said, My Father,
Behold the preparations, fire and iron,
But where the lamb, for this burnt-offering?
Then Abram bound the youth with belts and straps,
And builded parapets and trenches there,
And stretchèd forth the knife to slay his son.
When lo! an Angel called him out of heaven,
Saying, Lay not they hand upon the lad,
Neither do anything to him, thy son.
Behold! Caught in a thicket by its horns,
A Ram. Offer the Ram of Pride instead.

But the old man would not so, but slew his son,
And half the seed of Europe, one by one.

Dulce et decorum est, pro patria mori. Indeed.

Poetry, little one. Do you know of Wilfred Owen?

Perhaps I could teach you. Are you enjoying the war?

If you want.

I don't know, it's too loud. I had more fun the other day.

It's rare to find one who appreciates its subtle art here. You must be Byakuran.

Eh? We'd call it Roman, in my world. Since that was the name of the empire, right?

But it's silly... To die for pride. People who think like that... they're easy to use.

Oh? How odd, something like this coming from you.

The quote is Horace, isn't it? As far as the poem, I'm not a fan of poetry.

I wonder what of a man without a country.

I believe you'll find the poem itself quite tragic, Abel.

Are you such a man?

Maybe I'll try to read it, when I can concentrate. There's too much...going on. I never was good at all of that symbolism, even when I was in university.

Yes and no. I'm sure that everyone must have a country, in one way or another, but some of us aren't capable of patriotism.

Well enough. I have a feeling someone I care about will be returning to me soon.

Why do you think that? It can't be good to be so disenfranchised. People need something through which to find commonalities with other people.
